‘Catastrophic situations’ at Khan Younis hospitals amid Israeli onslaught: Health Ministry

Israeli army besieges hospitals in Khan Younis amid military offensive in city

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – Hospitals in Khan Younis city are experiencing “catastrophic” situations amid a deadly Israeli offensive in the southern Gaza Strip, the Health Ministry in the enclave said Wednesday.

“Conditions are worsening at the Nasser Medical Complex and Al-Amal Hospital in the city,” ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said in a statement.

''Many patients and injured people are expected to die due to Israeli attacks, lack of medical resources, and insufficient food,” he warned.

The spokesman held Israel fully responsible for the lives of medics, patients, and displaced people at the two medical facilities.

Al-Qudra also appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN to "protect hospitals in Khan Younis, safeguard those present inside, and provide food and urgent necessities."

The Israeli army has slapped a tightening siege around the two hospitals since last week as part of an Israeli offensive in the city.

Israel launched a deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip following an Oct. 7 Hamas attack, killing at least 26,900 Palestinians and injuring 65,949. Nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.

The Israeli offensive has left 85% of Gaza’s population internally displaced amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
