China launches its 1st civilian passenger drone base

ISTANBUL (AA) - China has launched its first civilian passenger drone base in the southern Guangdong province, China Central Television reported on Tuesday.

The site, located in Guangzhou city's Huangpu district, has begun its trial operations after becoming one of the first in the country to secure a commercial license for uncrewed passenger flights.

The utilized aircraft, certified with three key airworthiness approvals, can reach speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour (nearly 81 miles per hour), offers aerial sightseeing, as well as low-altitude logistic services.

This project showcases Guangdong's role in the emerging low-altitude sector, where over 15,000 companies have formed a full industrial chain in areas from design to global-scale manufacturing.
