BEIJING (AA) – The coronavirus pandemic has claimed the first life in China since May 26 on Sunday.
According to the National Health Commission, an 87-year-old man from Beijing died as a result of the infection.
This was the country's first recorded fatality from the virus since May 26.
In the past 24 hours, mainland China recorded 2,204 symptomatic cases and 22,011 asymptomatic cases.
The number of cases increased due to the spread of highly contagious sub-variants. In the last five days, the number of daily cases has surpassed 20,000.
Despite the fact that the number of cases is minimal in comparison to the population, and the majority of them display no symptoms, China continues to execute severe pandemic control measures.
The plan, which aims to decrease the COVID-19 cases and break the chain of transmission, necessitates severe and large-scale measures such as quarantine, travel restrictions, mass testing, and restricting or maintaining closed-circuit activities of firms in manufacturing, trade, and services.
In addition to interfering with the normal flow of life, the policies have also sparked a debate about their economic impact.
