China: Suspect kills self after shooting 2 officials

BEIJING (AA) - Chinese authorities said Wednesday that a suspect shot two leading officials in a southwestern city before killing himself.

State news agency Xinhua reported that Panzhihua city’s Communist Party chief, Zhang Yan, and Mayor Li Jianqin were injured while holding a meeting at a local conference and exhibition center in the morning.

The suspect, who has been identified as Panzhihua’s land and resources chief Chen Zhongshu, reportedly later committed suicide.

According to the city publicity department, the injuries sustained by Zhang and Li are not life threatening.
