China, Thailand agree to enhance level of cooperation in joint military training

Chinese defense minister, Thai chief of defense forces meet in Beijing, according to reports

ISTANBUL (AA)— China and Thailand on Friday agreed to enhance their level of cooperation in joint military training, said a statement from the Chinese Defense Ministry.

Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun and Thai Chief of Defense Forces Songwit Noonpackdee met in Beijing on Friday.

Dong expressed Beijing's willingness to "fully leverage" the existing cooperation mechanism and further enhance their cooperation in joint training, personnel training, and other areas, said the statement.

Songwit expressed Bangkok's support for the "one-China principle" and called for cooperation with Beijing to jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as expressing willingness to continue to enhance cooperation across all levels and areas.

Songwit met China’s Chief of Joint Staff Liu Zhenli on Thursday, during which the two sides reached “important consensus” on strategic cooperation, reported the South China Morning Post, citing the Defense Ministry.

The two military leaders "reached important consensus on strengthening strategic communication and deepening cooperation in joint exercises and training."
