China's death toll from heavy rain, floods climbs to 22, plus over 2 dozen missing
Heavy rainfall causes floods, landslides in parts of northwestern Gansu, southern Guangdong provinces

ANKARA (AA) – The death toll in China from heavy rain and floods rose to 22 on Saturday after five more people died in Gansu, northwestern China, state-run media reported.
The latest data from the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters office said that so far 15 people have died and 28 are missing while 15 others were injured in the Yuzhong region, according to The Global Times.
Heavy rain and flood also displaced 9,828 people in the area.
On Friday, local authorities said that at least 10 people were killed and 33 are missing after heavy rainfall battered central parts of Gansu province on Thursday night.
Separately, seven people were reported missing on Wednesday after a landslide caused by heavy rains in southern China's Guangdong province and were confirmed dead by authorities on Friday.
But following the landslide, authorities managed to save seven of the 14 people buried alive.
Multiple houses were also damaged.
Last week, at least 30 people died in the capital Beijing after heavy rainfall pounded the city, causing widespread flooding, infrastructure damage, and mass evacuations.
Heavy rainfalls have recently hit eastern, northern, and northeastern China, triggering floods and other disasters and causing heavy casualties in Beijing, Hebei, Jilin, and Shandong.
