Civilian injured by Israeli fire in southern Lebanon amid ceasefire violations

Israeli drone strike also reported in Yaroun town

BEIRUT/ISTANBUL (AA) – A Lebanese civilian was injured by Israeli army fire in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, in the latest violation of a ceasefire agreement, the Health Ministry said.

A ministry statement said that the civilian was wounded in the town of Al-Aadaissah, without giving further details.

The Lebanese state news agency NNA also reported an Israeli drone strike in Yaroun in southern Lebanon, with no injuries reported.

A fragile ceasefire had been in place in Lebanon since November, ending months of cross-border warfare between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah, which escalated into a full-scale conflict in September.

Lebanese authorities reported more than 1,362 Israeli violations of the ceasefire, including at least 117 fatalities and more than 363 injuries.

Under the ceasefire deal, Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by Jan. 26, but the deadline was extended to Feb. 18 after it refused to comply. It still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
