SIIRT/BITLIS, Turkey (AA) - One civilian was injured Thursday when an improvised explosive device planted by PKK terrorists went off in Turkey's southeastern Siirt province, a security source said.

The incident happened as a bucket operator with Pervari Municipality was working on a drinking water line between Gurzova and Ignili villages, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Security forces searched the area for any other explosives that might have been planted by terrorists, the source added.

Separately, a PKK terrorist was killed in a security operation in Mutki district of neighboring Bitlis province, the governor's office said.

Counterterrorism operations will continue in the region, a statement said.

More than 1,200 people, including security personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-long armed campaign in July 2015.
