Climate activists from 17 countries gather at airport to call for ban on use of private jets
By Muhammed Ikbal Arslan
GENEVA (AA) - Dozens of climate activists gathered Tuesday at Geneva Airport and called for a ban on the use of private jets, causing a temporary disruption to air traffic.
Around 100 protesters chained themselves to private jets at the airport which are on display as part of the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE), Europe’s biggest private jet fair.
Air traffic was suspended during the protest and police intervened.
The protesters demanded a ban on private jets in a bid to address the use of fossil fuels and climate change.
Around 80 of them were arrested by police.
Sharing a photo from the protest, Greenpeace said that private jets are the most polluting form of transport.
"Climate activists from 17 countries came together to demand that our governments take the climate crisis seriously immediately and #BanPrivateJets," it added.
