Coalition strike kills 3 family members in Iraq’s Mosul

NINEVEH, Iraq (AA) – Three members of the same family were killed by a U.S.-led coalition in Iraq’s northern city of Mosul, according to a local anti-terrorism officer.

Two other family members were injured in the strike, which targeted Al-Sikak district in western Mosul on Monday, Lieutenant Yahya Hamid told Anadolu Agency.

There was no comment from the U.S.-led coalition on the incident.

Civilian houses occasionally come under attacks by coalition warplanes taking part in an Iraqi offensive aimed to recapture Mosul from Daesh terrorist group, which overran the city in 2014.

On March 17, a suspected coalition airstrike killed scores and injured hundreds in Mosul’s western city.

Elsewhere, two civilians were killed and nine others injured by mortar shell in Al-Resala district in western Mosul.

Last month, Amnesty International slammed the U.S. for the deadly strike, saying "hundreds of civilians" have been killed after being told by Iraqi forces to stay inside for their own protection.

"The high civilian toll suggests that coalition forces leading the offensive in Mosul have failed to take adequate precautions to prevent civilian deaths, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law,” the group's senior crisis response adviser Donatella Rovera said.
