ISTANBUL (AA) - Kyrgyzstan’s parliament on Thursday voted to dissolve itself, paving the way for an early election in the Central Asian nation.

A statement by the Supreme Council, also known as the Jogorku Kenesh, cited Kyrgyz lawmaker Ulan Primov as saying that the vote on the legislature’s self-dissolution was put forward by a group of 32 deputies. As many as 84 lawmakers supported the proposal.

“The time difference between two important political events -- the presidential and parliamentary elections -- is short,” Primov said on the reason for the dissolution. “Therefore, in order to strengthen the political system and stability in the country, the initiative group proposes that parliament voluntarily resign.”

Separately, parliament speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, according to Kyrgyz news agency AKIpress, said the parliamentary vote will be held on Nov. 30 if all procedures are followed.

Kyrgyzstan was originally due to hold a parliamentary election in November 2026. A presidential vote, meanwhile, is scheduled for January 2027.
