BUJUMBURA, Burundi (AA) - Burundi has extended the quarantine period for all those entering the East African country, the country’s health minister said on Friday.
"Anyone entering Burundi by air must be confined for seven days instead of three days," Thaddee Ndikumana said, adding that every visitor must undergo two COVID-19 tests.
Ndikumana also announced the closure of land borders with the exception of freight carriers.
The new measures were taken due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Burundi has recorded a total of 842 coronavirus cases, with two fatalities, according to latest figures published by the country's Health Ministry on Jan. 6.
