Croatia reiterates support for Bosnia's EU membership

Croatian government, Premier Andrej Plenkovc strongest proponents of Bosnia's EU path, says Foreign Minister Grlic Radman

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic Radman said on Saturday that Bosnia and Herzegovina can count on his country's support towards European Union (EU) membership.

“The Government of the Republic of Croatia and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic were the strongest proponents of Bosnia's European path, but such a thing would have been difficult to achieve if Bosnia had not implemented a series of important reforms on its own,” said Radman on X after meeting with his Bosnian counterpart Elmedin Konakovic in the capital Zagreb.

According to Radman, Bosnia's goal is now clearly a full membership in the EU.

“The goal is now clearly visible on the horizon, which is full membership in the EU. The path to it is complex, but it can ensure that the results of the reforms are sustainable and permanent and ultimately benefit BiH (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and its citizens,” said Radman.

EU Council President Charles Michel announced on March 21 that it was decided to start accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina made its membership application on Feb. 15, 2016, and received candidate country status on Dec. 15, 2022.
