Czech President Milos Zeman taken to ICU in hospital

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Czech President Milos Zeman was admitted to intensive care on Sunday after being taken to hospital.

Zeman is receiving treatment at the Central Military Hospital in the capital Prague, the hospital's director Dr. Miroslav Zavoral said in a brief press statement.

"The reason for hospitalization is complications from the illnesses for which he has been receiving treatments," said Zavoral.

He did not give further information on Zeman's health.

The 77-year-old president's office had previously said he had been ill and spent eight days in the hospital last month.

Zeman has been suffering from a range of health issues over recent years.

His hospitalization comes a day after a parliamentary election in the country which saw his close ally, Prime Minister Andrej Babis, lose to a center-right coalition.

Zeman has a key role to play in establishing a new government.
