Defending Champions League winners Chelsea to face Real Madrid in quarterfinals

1st legs to be held on April 5-6, return matches to be played on April 12-13 April

ANKARA (AA) - Reigning UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea will take on the tournament's most successful club Real Madrid in the quarterfinals.

The 2021-22 Champions League last eight draw was held in Switzerland's Nyon on Friday.

The Chelsea vs. Real Madrid tie will be one of the toughest showdowns of the quarterfinal phase.

England's Chelsea are the latest champions as the Blues have won Europe's top-tier club trophy in the 2020-21 season.

They won against Manchester City 1-0 in the 2021 final in Porto to earn it for the second time in the club's history.

Meanwhile, Chelsea's opponents in the quarterfinals; Real Madrid earned this title 13 times in history.

The Spanish club last won the Champions League in 2018 after beating Liverpool 3-1 in the final in Kyiv.

The 2021-22 Champions League quarterfinals will have two legs. The first legs will be held on April 5-6, and the second leg matches will be on April 12-13.

In addition to the quarterfinals, the semifinal pairings were also unveiled after the draw.

The 2022 Champions League final will be played on May 28 at Paris' Stade de France.
