ISTANBUL (AA) – A digital exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Turkic republics opened on Friday at the Turkic Council Media Forum in Istanbul.

Those attending the event included the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Ersin Tatar, Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev, head of Turkey's Communications Directorate Fahrettin Altun, and Turkic Council Secretary-General Baghdad Amreyev, as well as delegates from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, TRNC and Hungary.

Representatives of media and communication groups and academia also attended the media forum.

Speaking to reporters following the opening ceremony, Altun said the media forum is an important opportunity to counter disinformation against the Turkic world.

“Hopefully, the Turkic world's future will be much brighter as a result of its rich heritage, and the following years will be the times of the Turkic world,” Altun said.

Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a video message expressed hope for the three-day media forum, hosted by Turkey's Directorate of Communications, to be instrumental in strengthening solidarity among the countries.

Cooperation in media, TV series, and film sectors in the Turkic world as well as social media and a joint struggle against disinformation are among the topics that will be discussed during the forum.

The Turkic Council was established in 2009 as an intergovernmental organization with the overarching aim of promoting comprehensive cooperation among Turkic-speaking states. It consists of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan as member countries and Hungary as an observer state.
