Djibouti seeks closer medical sector ties with Türkiye

ISTANBUL (AA) – The African nation of Djibouti is seeking to deepen its collaboration with Türkiye in the medical sector.

On Monday, Prime Minister Mohamed hosted the Turkish Transplant Foundation in Djibouti, also the country’s capital, as part of strategic cooperation efforts between the two nations.

Discussions centered on the establishment of a National Transplant Center in the Horn of Africa country, according to state-run daily La Nation. Mohamed highlighted the importance of expanding access to care for congenital malformations through national partnerships, consolidating organ donation regulations, and strengthening public awareness campaigns on organ donation.

The Turkish group is supporting a project in Djibouti focused on supervising transplantation practices and enhancing local expertise through training programs and knowledge transfers.

To date, 20 Djiboutian citizens have benefited from organ transplants performed in Türkiye.

Political, economic, and commercial ties between Türkiye and Djibouti have grown steadily in recent years, reinforcing their strategic partnership.

Djibouti and Türkiye have strengthened bilateral relations over the years, with cooperation spanning multiple sectors, including trade, infrastructure, and healthcare. Türkiye has also been providing medical expertise and training to Djibouti, reflecting the broader scope of their collaborative efforts in fostering regional development and addressing healthcare challenges.
