ARU,Democratic Republic of Congo (AA) - Over 25,000 people in the past month, including 9,000 children, have fled from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Angola, according to UNICEF.

The UN Children Fund said Tuesday in a statement that it had reached thousands of children fleeing to Angola from violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, 200 of them without their parents.

"More than 9,000 children who have arrived at two temporary reception centers in Dundo, northern Angola, from the Democratic Republic of Congo need urgent support," UNICEF's statement said.

The children lack food, immunization, access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and a protective environment, added the statement.

More than 25,000 people have arrived in Angola, having fled violence in the Kasai province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Since August last year, numerous clashes have opposed Kamuina Nsapu militiamen to DRC security forces.

According to the UN peacekeeping mission (Monusco), over 400 people have been killed and over 500,000 displaced from their homes since August 2016.

About two months ago, Monusco discovered over a dozen mass graves.
