Driving drunk, husband of US consul general in Istanbul injures 1 in traffic accident

ISTANBUL (AA) - Driving while drunk, the husband of the US consul general in Istanbul injured a person when he crashed his car into the vehicle in front of him early on Thursday morning.

Mounir Elkhamri, the husband of US Istanbul Consul General Julie A. Eadeh was driving a consulate car down a major avenue through the commercial district of Sisli when the accident occurred.

Police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene on Buyukdere Avenue upon notification and the injured driver was taken to the hospital.

Elkhamri had a blood alcohol content of over 2 per mille. The maximum prescribed legal drink driving limit in Türkiye is 0.63 per mille.

He reportedly left the scene using his diplomatic immunity.
