Egyptian aid ship arrives at Mersin port for quake victims in Türkiye

At least 42,310 people killed in two deadly earthquakes in Türkiye on Feb. 6

MERSIN, Türkiye (AA) – An Egyptian ship loaded with humanitarian aid arrived at Mersin port on Wednesday for the victims of two deadly earthquakes that struck Türkiye on Feb. 6.


The Navy vessel carries 650 tons of aid for the quake victims, including tents, beds, covers, heaters, foodstuff and medical and hygiene supplies.


“Egypt stands in solidarity with Türkiye in these hard times,” Egyptian Chargé d’Affaires, Amr El Hamamy, told Anadolu.


"This ship is an Egyptian [message] of love to the Turkish people," he said.


Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi made a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan following the earthquakes during which he offered his condolences over the quake victims.


At least 42,310 people have been killed by two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye on Feb. 6, the country’s disaster management agency said Tuesday.


The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, centered in the Kahramanmaras province, affected more than 13 million people across 11 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, Elazig and Sanliurfa.
