More than 150 people killed, over 650 injured as worst flooding in more than 200 years hit Germany

ANKARA (AA) - A host of environmental disasters, including deadly rains and floods in Germany, China and India, volcanic eruptions in Azerbaijan, and massive forest fires in Turkey and Italy, and tropical storms in the US were reported in July.

Below is a timeline compiled by Anadolu Agency:


July 2:

- The number of deaths rises to 719 as the Canadian province of British Columbia (B.C.) remains under a heat wave, according to the B.C. Coroners Service.


July 3:

- Twenty people remain missing after landslides sweep away houses in the southwest of Japan's capital of Tokyo.


July 5:

- A strong explosion occurred in the Caspian Sea near the coast of Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, with the state oil company saying it was caused by a volcanic eruption.


July 9:

New York City, the largest city in the US, is drying out as Tropical Storm Elsa continues to race up the northeast coastline.


July 11:

A wildfire in a forest in Nea Styra on Evia Island near Athens prompts authorities to evacuate two villages.


July 15:

- At least two people are killed and three others are missing after flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rain hit Turkey's Black Sea region.


July 18:

- More than 150 people killed, over 650 injured as the worst flooding in more than 200 years in Germany hit the country.

- At least 15 people are killed and several injured when a house collapsed and a landslide occurred from heavy rain in India’s financial hub of Mumbai.


July 21:

- Severe flooding kills at least 56 people in central China’s Henan province caused by torrential rains.


July 22:

- Around 200 people are evacuated due to flooding in Turkey’s eastern Black Sea region.


July 23:

- The death toll rises to 50 from rain-related incidents in India's western Maharashtra state.


July 25:

- Many homes and basements are inundated in Belgium which witnesses floods for a second time in just more than a week.

- Over 1,500 people are evacuated from homes on the Italian island of Sardinia as fires ravaged 20,000 hectares (50,000 acres) of forestland.


July 26:

- Hundreds of thousands of people living near the sea are evacuated as Typhoon In-Fa lashed eastern China with strong winds and heavy rain.

- The death toll stands at 164 from rain-related incidents in India's Maharashtra state.


July 28:

- A massive flood caused by days-long seasonal monsoon rains push thousands of Rohingya to homelessness in Bangladesh's refugee camps.

- A major forest fire in Turkey’s Mediterranean district of Manavgat leaves several people injured, according to the country’s agriculture and forestry minister.


July 29:

- Flash floods caused by torrential rains claims at least 40 lives in Afghanistan's mountainous eastern Nuristan province.

- The death toll in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar district rises to at least 24 from floods and landslides triggered by days of heavy monsoon rains.

- The death toll hits 99 due to the unprecedented floods wreaking havoc in China.


July 30:

- Forest fires in Sicily in the south of Italy affect several places, especially the city center of Catania.


July 31:

- Turkey brings 74 forest fires raging across the country under control, at least six people are killed.
