By Ilkay Guder

ANKARA (AA) - President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli on Thursday discussed electoral alliance over the phone.

Erdogan and Bahceli on Sunday will meet in the capital Ankara to exchange views on electoral alliance, according to a presidential source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

On Jan. 8, Bahceli announced that his party would support Erdogan in the 2019 presidential elections rather than fielding a presidential candidate of its own

The MHP has also worked with the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party on foreign policy issues, particularly since the July 2016 defeated coup orchestrated by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).

Next year's presidential elections will be Turkey's first under the new presidential system of government.
