Ethiopian Airlines flying to Somalia after 4 decades

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AA) - Ethiopian Airlines, the country's tricolor national flag carrier, on Friday resumed flights to Mogadishu, Somalia after a four-decade hiatus.

The resumption of service came 41 years after Ethiopian Airlines Group stopped service to Mogadishu, and follows a declaration of cooperation signed in September between Ethiopia's and Somalia's leaders, and the president of their Horn of Africa neighbor, Eritrea.

Ethiopian is the fastest-growing airline in Africa, said state-affiliated broadcaster FANA.

In its 70-plus years of operation, Ethiopian has become one of the continent’s leading carriers, un rivaled in efficiency and operational success, according to the airline.

Ethiopian commands the lion’s share of the Pan-African passenger and cargo network, operating the youngest and most modern fleet to more than 116 international passenger and cargo destinations across five continents.
