BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell welcomed a newly formed government in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday.

Borrell congratulated the new chairman of the Council of Ministers Kristo Borjana.

''This was done swiftly and shows Bosnia and Herzegovina's capacity to deliver. Looking forward to more progress on the EU agenda. Count on EU support to work together on key reforms,'' said Borrell.

The House of Representatives held an emergency session Dec. 28 where the government was formed after Kristo, from the Croatian Democratic Union, was elected new chairman of the Council of Ministers.

The number of votes required was 22 while 23 deputies voted in favor of Kristo's Cabinet, with 19 deputies against the move.

The Democratic Action Party, the largest Bosnian political party, is not included in the new government.

It is chaired by Bakir Izetbegovic, the son of the first President Alija Izetbegovic, who led the country to independence.

In 2018, Bosnia formed its government 14 months after elections.
