European delegation meets Sudanese opposition

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) - A European Parliament delegation held two meetings Thursday with representatives of the Sudanese opposition in Khartoum.

Forces for Freedom and Change - Central Council (FFC-CC) said in a statement that the group stressed in the meeting the necessity to halt violence against those who protest coup authorities in Sudan.

It also voiced support for a political process that leads to civilian and democratic rule.

The head of the European delegation, David McAllister, expressed full support for the demands of the Sudanese people for democracy and civilian rule.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Forces for Freedom and Change - National Consensus, (FFC - NC) Mubarak Ardol, said he met the visiting delegation and said reviewed the country's political crisis and the possibility to end it.

He stressed the forming of an agreed transitional government to prepare for elections.

FFC - NC is a group close to the Sudanese military which rules Sudan, supports the military decisions and urges talks on national topics.

Sudan has been without a functioning government since October 2021 when the military dismissed Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok’s transitional government and declared a state of emergency -- a move decried by political forces as a “military coup.”
