European stocks end day lower

Stoxx 600 down 1.5%, Britain's FTSE falls 0.87%, Germany's DAX slips 2.29%, France's CAC off 0.7%

ISTANBUL (AA) - European stocks closed the second trading day of the week with losses.

The pan-European Stoxx Europe 600 index fell 1.5%, or 8.26 points, to close at 543.17.

Germany's DAX 40 was down 2.29% to 23,487.33 points, while the UK's FTSE 100 index lost 0.87% to 9,116.69.

France's CAC 40 index dropped 0.7% to 7,654.25 points and Italy’s FTSE MIB 30 fell 1.61% to 41,727.58.

The markets reacted negatively to trade policy uncertainties.

Last week, the US Federal Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that most of US President Donald Trump's global tariffs were illegal.

It said Trump exceeded his authority but allowed the tariffs to remain in effect until Oct. 14 for the administration to appeal to the Supreme Court.

On the data side, annual inflation in the euro area rose to 2.1% in August, from 2% in July

The euro/dollar exchange rate fell 0.55% to 1.1645 as of 1645GMT.
