Explosions heard in Iran’s capital as air defenses activated

ISTANBUL (AA) - Explosions were heard in the Iranian capital Tehran early Tuesday as air defense systems were reportedly activated, according to the official IRNA news agency.

The cause of the blasts remains unclear, but the incident comes shortly after US President Donald Trump announced a “complete and total ceasefire” agreement between Israel and Iran, declaring an end to what he called “the 12-day war.”

Iranian authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the explosions or the reported activation of air defense systems.

Regional tensions sharply escalated Sunday after the US bombed Iran’s Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities.

The attacks were the latest escalation in a US-backed Israeli military assault on Iran since June 13, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel.
