LONDON (AA) - London police said Thursday that the death of Irish music legend Sinead O’Connor "is not being treated as suspicious."

O’Connor, who released 10 studio albums, including the 1990 hit single Nothing Compares 2 U, died on Wednesday 18 months after the death of her 17-year-old son Shane.

In a statement, police said that officers were called at 11.18 local time (1018GMT) on Wednesday to reports of "an unresponsive woman at a residential address" in southern London.

"Officers attended. A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene ... the death is not being treated as suspicious," it added.

The singer's family on Wednesday confirmed O’Connor's death, saying: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead."

O’Connor changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat after converting to Islam in 2018 but continued to perform under the name Sinead O’Connor.
