FAO spotlights Anadolu Greenline reporter in science communication feature

ISTANBUL (AA) – The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Thursday published special content on its website highlighting science communication's role in connecting science and society in recognition of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, an annual observance established by the UN General Assembly in 2015 to promote equal participation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

FAO, which promotes effective science communication in agrifood systems through events, training, and strategies, selected five journalists to demonstrate how storytelling makes scientific knowledge more accessible and impactful.

Among them is Biriz Ozbakir, an Anadolu Greenline reporter from Türkiye.

The others are Bulgarian Assia Chaneva, Tunisian Mayssa Sandli, Italian Francesca Buoninconti, and Croatian Vedrana Simicevic.

In her contribution titled “Journalism and Science Share the Same Curiosity," Ozbakir wrote: “Science systematically explores questions, while journalism brings them to life through human stories, emotions, and context.”

She added that the excitement of uncovering and sharing a story closely mirrors the thrill of scientific discovery.
