FBI chief offers to allow US lawmakers to view Biden document
Republicans threaten to hold FBI chief in contempt of Congress unless form is handed over
By Michael Hernandez
WASHINGTON (AA) - FBI Director Christopher Wray has offered to allow lawmakers to view a document that Republicans believe implicates US President Joe Biden in wrongdoing, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said Wednesday.
Comer said Wray offered him the opportunity to view the form at the FBI's headquarters in the nation's capital. Comer previously subpoenaed Wray for it and threatened to hold him in contempt of Congress.
The Oversight Committee said Comer would begin contempt proceedings against Wray if he does not "hand over the FD-1023 form as required by the subpoena." The form includes information from an FBI source that has not been verified.
Republicans believe the unclassified file ties Biden to wrongdoing with a foreign national when he was serving as vice president in the Obama administration.
Comer and Representative Jamie Raskin, Oversight's top Democrat, are expected to view the document, according to CNN.
Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley issued a statement Tuesday saying they believe it alleges "then-Vice President Biden engaged in a criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national."
The White House has denied suggestions that the document proves wrongdoing, calling it part of a "politically-motivated" attack.
