Fenerbahce beat ALBA Berlin for 14th EuroLeague win in Istanbul

ISTANBUL (AA) - Fenerbahce claimed a 101-86 win Friday against ALBA Berlin in a Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Round 23 game.

Fenerbahce Beko were in control and won each of the first three quarters at Ulker Sports And Event Hall.

Head coach Dimitris Itoudis congratulated the team on winning the game, saying "they have a good flow. We did a pretty good job in the third quarter in order to make stops. We only gave up 14 points in that third quarter. I think it was a turning point and the fact that we managed to force 16 turnovers is big."

He added: "Obviously, we didn't contain them a lot but still, we have a confidence win, so congratulations to the team and thank you to the fans.”

ALBA head coach Israel Gonzalez said the team had problems in defense and they need to improve their challenge in one-on-one situations.

"We are receiving too many close baskets in penetration, and this is our way to improve because we are a team that arrives with good rhythm, normally, around 80 points, but we need to decrease the points (allowed) on defense."

Nigel Hayes finished with a double-double, leading Fenerbahce with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Johnathan Motley scored 18 points.

Carsen Edwards added 13 points.

Yanni Wetzell was the high scorer for the German club with 13 points. Yovel Zoosman helped with 12 points.

Fenerbahce are fourth at 14 - 9 while ALBA Berlin are at the bottom of the standings at 6-17.

- Anadolu Efes lose to Olympiacos at away

Olympiacos Piraeus defeated Anadolu Efes 76-70 at Peace And Friendship Stadium.

Aleksandar Vezenkov lead the Greek side to victory with 23 points and Michalis Lountzis finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Shane Larkin, Rodrigue Beaubois, Elijah Bryant and Vasilije Micic each scored 10 points in an away loss for Anadolu Efes.

Olympiacos are atop the EuroLeague table at 16 – 7. Anadolu Efes are 11th at 11-12.
