Fenerbahce end Super Lig's first half with narrow win

Fenerbahce gain hard-fought win in Rize, collecting 31 points at first half of 2019-20 season

ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Super Lig title contenders Fenerbahce beat Caykur Rizespor 2-1 for the last game of the 2019-20 season’s first half.

Deniz Turuc's free-kick goal gave the Istanbul team the 1-0 lead in 13th minute at Rize.

Caykur Rizespor responded quickly as Mohamed Aberhoun scored the equalizer five minutes after Turuc's goal,1-1.

In the second half, Jailson's goal in the 70th minute led his team to the victory over Caykur Rizespor, 2-1.

Jailson's goal was the last goal of the Turkish Super Lig in 2019, and it was a memorable one.

The Brazilian -- playing at centre-back this match -- struck a prayer from nearly 40 meters out to hunt the goalkeeper, giving his team vital three points in title race.

Fenerbahce increased their points to 31 as they finish the Super Lig's first half in fourth spot.

Caykur Rizespor ranked 12th with 20 points in the standings.
