Football: Asian Cup 2019 quarterfinals to kick off

Qatar, China, Iran, Vietnam, Japan, Korea Republic, Australia and UAE progress to quarter-finals of Asian Cup

ISTANBUL (AA) - The AFC Asian Cup 2019 quarter-final matches will kick off Thursday and Friday in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Qatar, China, Iran, Vietnam, Japan, the Korea Republic, Australia and the UAE progressed to the quarterfinals.

The semifinals will be played on Jan. 28-29 while the final match will be in Feb. 1.

The 2019 AFC Asian Cup is the men's football championship of Asia organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

The 17th edition of the AFC Asian Cup kicked off in the UAE on Jan. 5.

Results of the round of 16 are as follows:

Qatar - Iraq: 1-0

Korea Republic - Bahrain: 2-1

UAE - Kirghizistan: 3-2

Australia - Uzbekistan: 0-0 (4-2)

Thailand - China: 1-2

Iran - Oman: 2-0

Jordan - Vietnam: 1-1 (2-4)

Japan - Saudi Arabia: 1-0

The quarterfinal matches are as follows:

Thursday, January 24:

China - Iran

Vietnam - Japan

Friday, January 25:

Korea Republic - Qatar

UEA - Australia
