BISHKEK / İSTANBUL (AA) – Former mayor of Kyrgyzstan's Tokmok city, Maksat Nusuvaliyev, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for corruption, the Oktyabr District Court of Bishkek announced on Thursday.

According to local media, two of his subordinates and the head of a contracting company were sentenced to 12 years, and another subordinate to 11 years in prison.

The case concerned corruption allegations within the Tokmok Municipality.

The court also ordered the confiscation of property belonging to all five defendants, including Nusuvaliyev.

In June, State Committee for National Security head Kamchybek Tashiev visited Tokmok and ordered the detention of the mayor, his subordinates, and a contractor after inspecting complaints about irregularities in the construction of a city park and the absence of a promised gym.

Nusuvaliyev was dismissed the following day.
