Four civilians killed in fresh airstrikes in Syria

ALEPPO, Syria (AA) – At least four people were killed Tuesday and 10 others wounded in a new wave of regime airstrikes on this war-battered city, according to a pro-opposition civil defense official.

Zekariya Hanan said regime warplanes carried out several raids on opposition-held residential areas in the northeastern city.

During the last week, at least 342 civilians were killed and 1,150 others injured in the Syrian regime and Russian airstrikes, according to statistics from a civil defense unit.

Syria has been locked in a devastating civil war since early 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests -- which erupted as part of the "Arab Spring" uprisings -- with unexpected ferocity.

Since then, hundreds of thousands of people are believed to have been killed and millions more displaced by the conflict.
