France to file complaint against 2 e-commerce platforms over sale of sex dolls

Commerce Minister Serge Papin announces to file complaint against AliExpress, Joom

ISTANBUL (AA) - French Commerce Minister Serge Papin announced on Wednesday that the government will file a complaint against two e-commerce platforms over the sale of sex dolls.

Papin told broadcaster TF1 that they will file a complaint against AliExpress and Joom, as they sell "pedopornographic dolls."

In mid-November, Papin had already announced that reports had been filed with the judiciary against these two sites, as well as eBay, Temu, and Wish, for selling illegal products.

Meanwhile, a hearing on the possible suspension of the Asian platform Shein is taking place at the Paris Judicial Court, after the government also referred the company to the courts in early November for selling childlike sexualized dolls and banned weapons.

The French government is expected to request a suspension of at least three months.

"We must put an end to the digital Wild West," Papin further said.

He also noted that authorities need proof that any products returned to the market meet consumer standards and called for the matter to be addressed at the European level.
