Gaza government condemns Israel's attack on Al-Ahli Baptist hospital

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Palestinian government in the Gaza Strip condemned an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City on Sunday.

The Gaza Media Office said Israel committed another horrific crime by bombing the hospital, which housed hundreds of patients, the wounded and medical staff.

A statement described the attack as part of a broader series of atrocities committed by the Israeli military against the Palestinian people, and said fighter jets targeted the hospital, bombing it with multiple missiles.

The hospital, one of the oldest and most significant health care facilities in Gaza, serves more than 1 million people in Gaza City and northern areas of the Gaza Strip, it noted.

The government held Israel and the US, as well as countries such as the UK, Germany and France, responsible for the attack.

The statement urged the international community, UN bodies and humanitarian organizations to denounce the attack and take immediate action to halt the violence and protect health care facilities.

The airstrikes in central Gaza destroyed the hospital’s emergency and reception department, which was hit by two missiles.
