Mindia Lavasogli accused of being leader of organized crime syndicate in Georgia

By Seyit Ahmet Eksik

TRABZON, Turkey (AA) - Turkey on Thursday captured a Georgian suspect sought with a red notice from Interpol in the Black Sea province of Trabzon, according to police sources.

Mindia Lavasogli, also known as Mindia Goradze, was wanted for the charges of being the leader of an organized crime syndicate in Georgia, the sources said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

A Georgian court in June sentenced Lavasogli to 12 years of prison over charges of "affiliation with the thieves’ world, the organization of extortion by a group of persons, and the obstruction of journalistic activity by the threat of violence," according to a statement of Prosecutor's Office of Georgia.
