Germany warns illegal Israeli settlement in West Bank threatens prospects for 2-state solution

GENEVA (AA) - The German foreign minister on Thursday warned that the construction of illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank threatens prospects for a two-state solution.

In a statement on the US social media platform X, the Foreign Ministry said that Johann Wadephul, who is on a visit to Indonesia, said that settlement building in the West Bank is illegal under international law and called for an immediate halt to expansion.

"The path to a two-state solution must not be blocked by Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank," the statement said.

"We expressly warn against expanding the construction of settlements," it said.
