Greece concerned over economic, geopolitical ramifications of Iran-Israel conflict

ATHENS (AA) - The Greek premier on Wednesday expressed strong concern over the geopolitical and economic ramifications of the Iran-Israel armed tension, which started last Friday.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Kyriakos Mitsotakis maintained that a solution can be found through diplomacy that can ensure peace.

“We understand that Europe alone does not currently have the capacity to resolve the problem. The United States plays an important role,” he added.

“We hope that we will not see further escalation that could have significant geopolitical and economic ramifications,” Mitsotakis said, noting that inflation the world economy currently deals with can be further fueled by the tension.

Israel launched large-scale attacks on June 13, targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities across several cities, as well as high-ranking military command centers.

Iranian media reported Wednesday that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes across Tehran and other populated areas has risen to 585, with at least 1,326 people injured since the attacks started last week.

In retaliation, Iran’s military launched ballistic missiles at Israel, killing 24 people and wounding over 500, according to reports.
