Greek center-left party decides on new name: PASOK-Movement for Change

ATHENS (AA) - The Movement for Change (KINAL) party members in Greece have voted in favor of changing the party’s name to PASOK-Movement for Change late Sunday.

Its members were called to choose between Movement for Change and PASOK-Movement for Change.

Nikos Androulakis, the head of the party, hailed the decision late Sunday after the announcement of the new name.

"The people have decided: Our symbol, the sun, is back -- along with the memories of a historic party that has come to be identified with people’s battles for democracy, social justice, and national dignity,” Androulakis said.

More than 170,000 members voted for the party's new name.

The Panhellenic Socialist Movement, PASOK, was founded by Andreas Papandreou in 1974 with the rising green sun as the party's logo which will now reappear with the new name.

In 2018, PASOK changed its name to KINAL under the leadership of Fofi Gennimata, who died in October 2021, and Androulakis took charge in December.
