Greek Cypriot Administration postpones EU meeting after drone attack

No new date for meeting announced

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Greek Cypriot Administration announced the postponement of a European Union meeting scheduled for Monday and Tuesday after an Iranian drone crashed at a British Royal Air Force (RAF) base in the country.

The meeting of EU European Affairs ministers was set to take place in the capital, Nicosia, as part of Greek Cyprus’ current term holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. No new date has yet been announced.

Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides said Sunday that the Iranian drone crashed at a British RAF base in Cyprus.

The incident followed remarks by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirming that Britain had agreed to a US request to use British military bases for “defensive” strikes.

The development comes amid escalating regional tensions after the United States and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Saturday, killing several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran responded with a series of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, US assets, and several Gulf countries.
