BEIRUT (AA) - The Greek Cypriot Administration faces several challenges in common with Lebanon, Nicos Christodoulides, the administration's top diplomat, said Wednesday.

He made the assertion at a joint press conference held in Beirut with Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.

Christodoulides called for stepped-up cooperation between his administration and Lebanon with a view to confronting common challenges.

He went on to point out that the Greek Cyprus had taken part in the March 15 "Rome II" Conference, where it had announced its decision to provide the Lebanese army with military equipment worth some 15 million euros.

According to Christodoulides, the administration also plans to participate in the upcoming April 6 Paris Conference in a show of support for Lebanon.

Bassil, for his part, said he had asked for assistance from Greek Cyprus regarding the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

“Lebanon can no longer endure the Syrian refugee influx,” he said.

Bassil added that the best way to support Lebanon was to help Lebanese goods enter the European market.
