By Magda Panoutsopoulou

ATHENS (AA) - Greek police on Thursday recaptured a member of an ultra-left terrorist group on the run for two years.

Pola Roupa, 48, a member of the Revolutionary Struggle militant organization, was detained early Thursday at a residence in the Helioupolis area of suburban Athens, according to police.

The partner of Revolutionary Struggle member and prisoner Nikos Maziotis, Roupa had been convicted of involvement in several terrorist attacks. She and Maziotis first absconded in 2012 but Maziotis was re-captured in 2014.

According to security forces, Roupa was at the house with her young child and a 25-year-old woman when police raided and detained her. She did not resist arrest, despite a gun being found in her bag.

Revolutionary Struggle first emerged in 2003 as a militant group whose ideology is borrowed from various leftist factions in the region, such as November 17.

Maziotis is in jail for attacks claimed by Revolutionary Struggle, including a car bomb that damaged the Athens Stock Exchange in 2009. In 2007 the group attacked the U.S. embassy in Athens.
