Greeks see Russia as closest to national interests: Poll

ATHENS (AA) - Greeks view Russia as the foreign country most aligned with Greece’s national interests, according to a survey released on Monday.

According to the findings, published by the online edition of To Vima, 21.3% of respondents identified Russia as Greece’s closest ally, followed by the US (19%) and Israel (17.2%).

Notably, support for Russia spanned voters across the political-ideological spectrum, whereas Western countries were favored primarily by those closer to the political center.

The survey also highlighted a shifting perception of global power dynamics, with an increasing number of Greeks seeing the US as a declining superpower, struggling to compete with China in the coming years.

More than 52% of respondents predicted that China would be the world’s dominant power by 2050.

Meanwhile, public opinion on the future of the EU remains divided, with 42.8% supporting the dissolution of the union, while 40.7% favor further European integration.
