Gunmen kill 5 Egyptian policemen near Cairo

CAIRO (AA) - At least five policemen were killed Friday in an attack by unidentified assailants in a Giza province near Cairo, ministry of interior said in a statement.

“Three unidentified assailants riding a motorbike opened fire on a security vehicle in El-Badrashin city Friday morning,” the statement read.

“A police officer who was near the crime scene exchanged fire with the attackers forcing them to flee,” the ministry said.

Two cops and three conscripts were killed in the attack, according to the ministry.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

In April, President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi declared a three-month state of emergency after 45 people were killed in twin attacks on two churches, responsibility for which was later claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.

In late June, Egypt’s cabinet approved the extension of the countrywide state of emergency for three more months.
