Hezbollah strikes Israeli military sites near Lebanon border amid tension

Israeli warplanes carry out air raids in border towns in southern Lebanon, according to official Lebanese news agency

MARJAAYOUN, Lebanon (AA) – Lebanese group Hezbollah said Tuesday that it had struck Israeli military sites near the border with Lebanon amid rising tensions along the countries’ shared frontier.

In a statement, the group said its fighters had fired missiles at the Birkat Risha outpost and military gathering places, inflicting injuries.

Lebanon’s official news agency NNA said Israeli fighter jets fired two missiles at the area between the towns of Tayr Harfa and Majdal Zoun.

No injuries were reported.

Israeli warplanes also carried out air raids in the town of Ayta ash-Shab and the outskirts of the town of Blida in southern Lebanon, the broadcaster said.

Tension has flared along the border between Israel and Lebanon amid intermittent exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tension comes as Israel widened its air and ground operations in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Israeli border towns on Oct. 7.
