Hezbollah strikes Israel’s Northern Command HQ amid growing tension

Hezbollah says strike in response to Israeli assassination of Hamas deputy leader, its commander

By Anadolu staff

BEIRUT (AA) - Lebanese group Hezbollah said Tuesday that it had struck the Israeli army’s Northern Command in northern Israel.

The group said it targeted the site in Safed with several drones in response to the Israeli assassination of Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri and Hezbollah commander Wissam al-Tawil.

Arouri was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s southern neighborhood last week, while al-Tawil was killed in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon on Monday.

Israel has not officially claimed responsibility for the killings.

The Israeli Army Radio confirmed the drone attack on the military site. It published footage showing smoke rising from the site.

No injuries were reported in the attack, which caused minor damage to a building on the site, according to the broadcaster.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tension comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7, which killed 23,210 Palestinians.
