Honduras: At least 26 dead after fishing boat capsizes

ANKARA (AA) - At least 26 people died after a lobster-fishing boat capsized off the Atlantic coast of Honduras on Wednesday due to poor weather conditions, local media reported.

According to local daily El Heraldo, Jose Domingo Meza, the spokesman of the armed forces, said some 47 people were rescued near Puerto Lempira in northeastern Honduras.

The alert of the sinking vessel was given by the Captain Austin Haylock Almendares, who also perished along with other crew members, Meza said.

He noted that another fishing boat capsized earlier in the day due to poor weather conditions in the same region, but all 40 people onboard were rescued.

Beginning from July, the lobster-fishing season will continue until February at Honduran coast.
