Houthis say 8 civilians injured in fresh US airstrikes in Yemen

US attack hits residential neighborhood west of Ar-Rawda in Bani al-Harith district in capital Sanaa, according to Yemen-based group

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Yemeni Houthi group said that eight civilians, including two children, were injured in US airstrikes on the country’s capital Sanaa on Saturday.

"Eight civilians, including two children, were injured as a result of American aggression targeting a residential neighborhood west of Ar-Rawda in Bani al-Harith District in the capital, Sanaa,” the group's Al-Masirah TV channel said in a statement on Telegram.

In another statement, it said: "American aggression targeted Ras Isa Port in Al-Salif district (in Al Hudaydah province, western Yemen) with a series of airstrikes."

As of 2020GMT, there had been no comment from Washington.

Al-Masirah TV channel, citing unnamed sources, reported later that "three American airstrikes targeted the seized Israeli ship Galaxy Leader," without providing further details.

The US has carried out more than 1,200 airstrikes in Yemen since March 15, killing more than 217 civilians and injuring over 430, mostly women and children, according to Houthi data that excludes losses among their forces.

Last month, US President Donald Trump said that he had ordered “decisive and powerful military action” against the Houthi group and later threatened to “completely annihilate them.”

The Houthis have targeted ships passing through the Red and Arabian seas, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden since November 2023 in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where nearly 51,500 people have been killed in a brutal Israeli assault.

The group halted attacks when a ceasefire in Gaza was declared in January between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas but resumed them after Israel renewed airstrikes on the enclave last month.
